The Comedy Shrine, in Naperville, is excited to announce they will be hosting The Seventh Python, a documentary film about Monty Python’s music guru Neil Innes, on Friday, August 14th at 8 pm. Special comedy and concert appearance by Mark & Brett Hudson (the Hudson Brothers), based on Mark’s one man show Living On The Edge.

The Seventh Python is a 2008 musical documentary film about the career, music and philosophy of pop satirist and songwriter Neil Innes, who has been known as the “seventh” member of the six-man Monty Python comedy troupe. The film, however, shows how Innes’ influence and experience goes far beyond that chapter, to include his work with the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band, The Rutles and other work. The Frozen Pictures film had its premiere at the American Cinematheque’s Mods & Rockers Film Festival at the Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood in June 2008. The film was directed by Burt Kearns, produced by Brett Hudson and written by Kearns & Hudson. The film features Innes in performance in Los Angeles, Sussex, England and Melbourne, Australia and features Pythons John Cleese, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin, as well as singer-songwriter Aimee Mann, Matt Groening (creator of The Simpsons), and composer/arranger John Altman, among others. On April 12, 2009, the director and producer of The Seventh Python received the Las Vegas Film Festival’s Golden Ace Award for “superior and standout filmmaking.” Three days later, the film was chosen as the Opening Selection of the 2009 Pacific Palisades Film Festival.

“I’ve seen the movie, The Seventh Python, and it’s a must see for any Monty Python or Neal Innes fan! It’s a wonderfully funny and charming piece of film making by my good friend Brett Hudson!” says David Sinker, owner of The Comedy Shrine.”Having Mark and Brett Hudson perform together after the movie is an incredible bonus! Mark has become the music producer of choice for Ringo Starr, Aerosmith, and Ozzie Osbourne! If his one man show is anything like the You Tube videos that feature him, the music/comedy concert will be hilarious!”

This is a one night only special only so make sure you purchase your tickets today. Show information: Friday, August 14th at 8 pm at The Comedy Shrine, 22 E. Chicago Avenue, Naperville, IL (the corner of Washington & Chicago Avenue in downtown Naperville).

For more information about this event, please contact David Sinker, Owner, at info@comedyshrine.com or call 630.355.2844.

We have Chicago’s own Chicago Sinfonietta and its annual tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. featuring a 160-voice choir from Northwestern University.*

Shows sure to appeal to families include *Seussical* and *Junie B. Jones.* College and professional theatrical productions include *Pippin,* *Love Song,* Aquila Theater Company*s *As You Like It* and Organic Theater Company*s *Tomfoolery.* North Central College*s student and faculty musicians, actors and artists will be featured in numerous events, and the season includes a full schedule of exhibits planned for the College*s three art galleries.

On Thursday, March 5th the ladies who brought you Chick Schtick will start preview performances of a spoof of cable television’s Lifetime Network with a show called, “Laughtime Comedy Network for Women”

This Thursday night show at The Comedy Shrine will combine sketch and improv comedy with audience participation. The show is a takeoff on the wide variety of Lifetime shows geared for the female audience. But like the Comedy Shrine’s earlier Ladies Night shows, it’s made for women, but strong enough for men as well.

No matter which sex you are, you’ll enjoy parodies of the ever popular Lifetime made for TV movie tearjerkers, TV dramas, talk shows, and commercials. No topic is taboo for The Comedy Shrine’s “Laughtime Comedy Network for Women!”

This hilarious farce of female television will include “The Best Friends Forever Game Show.” The game show similar in format to the old Newlywed Game will pit actual audience members against each other for valuable prizes to see who knows their best friend best!

“The Laughtime Network for Women” will begin previews starting on Thursday, March 5th at 8pm at The Comedy Shrine, 22 E. Chicago Avenue in downtown Naperville. Admission is $23 for adults and $18 for students.

The show will have an open run. There is a one drink minimum. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Comedy Shrine at (630) 355-2844 or online through Ticket Web. For more information go to www.comedyshrine.com

On Wednesday, November 12, 2008, KidsMatter, together with Mayor Pradel and the Naperville City Council, will honor 15 teens for their significant, hands-on and ongoing community service efforts during the 2008 Naperville Youth Service Awards. This annual community program will take place from 5:30 – 8:30 PM at the City Municipal Center, 400 South Eagle Street.

Since 1993, the City of Naperville has presented the Naperville Youth Service Award to recognize and honor outstanding volunteer efforts by local Naperville area students and to encourage all youth to get involved in community service.

Nominations for this year’s awards came from 15 local organizations and agencies that specifically provide young people with opportunities to volunteer their time and energy. The volunteer opportunities give teens a sense of purpose, provide them with valuable hands-on experiences they can build on into adulthood, and ignite the volunteer spirit that has helped make Naperville the thriving community it is today.

The award ceremony will be held in Council Chambers with the Mayor and members of Council honoring each individual student as well as recognizing their nominating organization. Each student will receive the Naperville Youth Service Award Pin, a framed certificate and a custom frame into which they will be able to place a photo of themselves receiving their award from the Mayor and City Council.

During the event there will be a musical performance by The Young Naperville Singers and a post-award reception compliments of Lou Malnati’s Pizzeria.

“The Mayor, City Council and KidsMatter are proud to honor these 15 students who have given their time, energy and heart to make a positive difference in the lives of other people and to make Naperville a better place in which to live” said IdaLynn Wenhold, Executive Director of KidsMatter.

For more information about this event, please contact IdaLynn Wenhold, KidsMatter Executive Director, kidsmatter@wideopenwest.com or 630-404-4589. For more information on KidsMatter please visit www.KidsMatter2us.org.

On Tuesday, September 23, KidsMatter is excited to host their 6th annual Volunteer Fair at the City Municipal Center from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm. As our young Naperville residents consider their extracurricular activities, KidsMatter wants to connect them with opportunities that will give them a sense of purpose, provide them with valuable hands-on experiences they can build on for college and into adulthood and ignite the volunteer spirit that has helped make Naperville the thriving community it is today.

As such KidsMatter is hosting the 6th Annual Volunteer Fair for students in grades 6 and up. The purpose of this event is to connect local area students who are interested in volunteering their time and energy with a wide variety of local agencies/organizations that provide volunteer service opportunities for young people.

Over thirty organizations who need youth volunteers in order to deliver their services to the community will be participating in this year’s Fair. These are locally-based groups such as Naper Settlement, American Cancer Society, DuPage P.A.D.S., St. Patrick’s Residence, Loaves & Fishes, Feed My Starving Children, Heritage YMCA, DuPage Easter Seals, Heset House, and DuPage Children’s Museum to name a few. Each organization will have representatives on-hand to speak to interested young people about the opportunities they provide.

Students from all area middle and high schools are invited to participate in this free Fair, along with youth groups from faith communities. This year we are also excited to announce that groups will be offering family volunteering! Last year, over 700 students attended. Parents are welcome to accompany their students.

Did you know that forty four percent of adults volunteer and two thirds of these people began volunteering when they were young?

By providing teens with useful roles in the community, both our young people and our community are enriched. Young people are given an outlet in which they can share their ideas, knowledge and creativity, therefore experiencing, first hand, the rewards of service to others. They also experience other non-parent adult role models within the organization in which they volunteer.

Since Naperville schools highly encourage community service, and many colleges are looking at this area of a student’s life as they consider admission applications, this is an ideal way to facilitate these volunteer connections for our community’s students.

This year’s event is being partially funded by a grant from The Naperville Rotary Club. With their mission of “Service above Self”, the KidsMatter Volunteer Fair supports Rotary’s belief that service is a core value we need to integrate into the lives of our youth through practical experiences.

The Naperville Jaycees are excited to announce that Gavin DeGraw will be performing on the Main Stage at Rotary Hill, in Naperville, at 8p.m. on Sunday, August 31 this Labor Day weekend.
“Gavin has got a huge fan base and his music appeals to fans of all ages,” says John Wrona, Last Fling coexecutive director.

“We’re looking forward to his enthusiastic show.”Platinum recording artist and singer songwriter, DeGraw released his second studio albumn, selftitled, Gavin DeGraw, which premiered at #7 on Billboard
chart in May, marking Gavin’s first Top 10 albumn. Gavin DeGraw includes his new pop hit single “I’m In Love With A Girl,” which has been in the Top 10 on the Hot AC radio chart for over eight weeks.
“My first main love of music was classic rock, and that’s always remained my foundation,” says DeGraw, who trained at the Berklee School of Music, before leaving to purse his music career. DeGraw broke through in 2003, with the release of his debut album, Chariot. Selling more than a million copies and earning platinum certification, Chariot yielded three hit singles – “I Don’t Want To Be,” “Follow Through,” and the title
track, “Chariot.”

A highlight to DeGraw’s career, the song, “I Don’t Want To Be,” was chosen as the theme song for the hit TV show “One Tree Hill”. The singer, 31, has made numerous appearances on television shows like The Late Show with David Letterman, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Live with Regis & Kelly and others. His songs have often been sung on “American Idol”. The Jaycees also announce their Monday night Main Stage headliner,

The Hat Guys, a Chicago based tight groove pop band, who will play at 4pm on Labor
Day. “The Hat Guys put on a great highenergy show last year, and had everyone on the Hill dancing, so we had to have them back,” said Wrona. Last Fling headliners will also include: Dennis DeYoung: The Music of Styx on Friday night, and The Doobie Brothers on Saturday night, both at 8p.m. For more information on the Last Fling’s weekend events, concert tickets, sponsorship and volunteer opportunities visit our website at www.LastFling.org. The Last Fling is the Naperville Jaycees’ major fundraising event of the year.
Each year, they host the city’s annual Labor Day festival, a wholesome, family event, with the entire community participating. More than 300,000 patrons visit over the 4 day event, which is held along Naperville’s Riverwalk area. Starting Friday afternoon and running through Monday evening, there are special events, carnival rides and attractions, a children’s playland, food and beverage vendors, a business expo and concerts on two stages each evening. The Labor Day parade is also part of the festivities. Hotel packages and free shuttle service will also be available. T

The Naperville Jaycees is a nonprofit service organization with over 200 young persons dedicated to personal development through community service. The group organizes and staffs the Last Fling in close cooperation with the City of Naperville, the Naperville Park District, numerous Naperville community organizations and tons of volunteers.

Proceeds from the Last Fling are given to nonprofit organizations in the community and throughout DuPage County. The Jaycees have contributed more than $300,000 to various local charities over the last three years.
